In a few weeks time, we will be setting off from our Midwest situation to experience far-flung worlds of unfamiliarity and begin to uncover the remnants of days that have long since passed. For nine days during the end of March/early April, we will traverse the soil, rich in history, between the Guinness-fueled land of Ireland until our final destination - the flooded canals of Venice.
Our first stage of the journey has us landing in Dublin, Ireland for a brief stay. We plan to see the typical Dublin fare such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Trinity College, all the while hitting multiple pubs along the way for liquid nourishment. We chose Ireland for this trip due to its relatively low airfare cost and believed it would provide a nice place to springboard into the rest of Europe.
Moving onwards on our journey, the plan is to depart Dublin and take a budget airline to Germany, which is the country our trip has been centered around. Once in Germany, this is where the true experiences begin. We plan to traverse from border to border, stopping in historic cities from Aachen to Berlin to Munich. We plan to slip into the pages of history and retrace the steps of the mighty Second World War and German history through war monuments, foregone Nazi headquarters, the Berlin Wall, and numerous heavenly cathedrals.
Once we depart Germany, we will soon be speeding through the towering snow capped Alps into Austria. Our time in Austria will be rather short with only a brief stop in Innsbruck before we cross the border once more into Italy, our final country.
Though the trip was predominantly Germany focused, we were able to squeeze in a few days in Italy in our planning. In Italy, we plan to roam the vast picturesque landscape of Colle Isarco before finding our way to the star-crossed lovers’ home of Verona and finally ending up in the flooded streets of Venice.
Seeing 20 cities in just 9 days will be no short feat. However, we are beyond excited to begin our journey and discover these new worlds. Stay tuned for an upcoming post over the recap of the journey!
